Sophia Laurenzi

Meet Sophia

Sophia Laurenzi is a journalist and writer focused on mental health, loss, justice, and personal agency. Her essays and reported work have appeared in TIME, The Washington Post, StoryQuarterly, Slate, and WIRED, among others.

She is currently working on a memoir that explores the impact of suicide loss and her time as a death row investigator. The book traces the parallel narratives of her father’s death and her work with incarcerated clients facing execution, raising broader questions about punishment, care, and what it means to bear witness.

Laurenzi was named a 2024 Ploughshares Emerging Writer Finalist. After earning her degree in Psychology and Neuroscience from Stanford University, she worked as a capital defense investigator in Tennessee. She now lives in Brooklyn.

  • Substack Strategy: Launching a newsletter that invites readers into Sophia’s research process, voice, and worldview—bridging her essays, journalism, and forthcoming book.

  • Pitch Consulting & Publication Strategy: Supporting submissions to high-prestige outlets by refining pitches and targeting the right editorial homes for her work.

  • Pre-Publication Audience Building: Creating long-term engagement strategies to grow anticipation ahead of her debut release.

  • Brand Positioning: Defining Sophia’s public narrative and digital identity as a next-generation public intellectual.

At Punctuation PR, we’re helping Sophia build not just visibility, but longevity. Because her voice isn’t just timely—it’s timeless.

She has the editing, organizational, and visual design skills that any author would benefit from—but she also creates big picture, personalized strategies for getting my writing to expanding audiences. I love working with Ellen on marrying the art and the business of my work. Her passion for amplifying good writing and important thinking is felt in the quality and curiosity she brings to every part of our work together.”
